It’s nearly noon and on a suggestion, I’ve taken a lazy walk down the main boulevard from where I’ve been resting my head and my soul for the last week. I’ve found and wandered into the New Mexican Restaurant. It’s a short, 4 block walk from the Concha Del Mar RV Campground Resort I had arrived at one week ago in Puerto Penasco, Mexico.ñ
The Local Hipsters Are Here
The young, well-to-do Mexicanas, dressed casual yet contemporary, are here for a late, relaxed breakfast. $3 Mimosas or Bloody Marys are the drink specials with breakfast today, and possibly every day? There is also a 30 something Americano couple and a table of 60-70 year old men, dressed in sporty vacation attire as if they had ridden over on their ATVs. A beautiful Harley was parked outside.
I’ve settled on the Molettes breakfast, just $4.50. Beans, homemade bread, and I’m forgetting what else! I’ve never had it before so will see when it arrives…which is the fun of dining in a new country. That surprise of your dish arriving and being what you imagined or possibly not at all!
Easy walking distance from my “home” for the next 3 weeks, I’m happy to find a good place to chill when I’ve got the feeling to explore the local food scene instead of my own cooking just for a change.
Surprise! With 4 large screen TVs around this cozy room, diners from any table are assured a good view. Futbol (soccer for us gringos) is broadcast on two screens and the Olympics from Bejing are apparently in full swing, on the other two. Good fun catching up on the international competitions I’d forgotten were even happening as I enjoyed my mimosa and waited for my breakfast Molettes.
OK, another delicious meal here in Puerto Penasco! Molettes are a split, homemade soft bread roll served open-face with beans, chorizo, spices, and melted cheese atop and accompanied by a delicious green salsa for topping. A chopped, fresh tomato, onion & cilantro salad was served alongside as a side dish. Filling and delicious.
Una mañana simplemente perfecta. A simply perfect morning!
